A beautiful blue zircon and diamond engagement ring dating to the Art Deco era. A vivid blue zircon is bezel set into a platinum top. Around the edges of the zircon is an engraved beaded design alternating with four diamonds. The cluster is ruffle edged, dipping between each of the diamonds and engraved design. The zircon is beautifully cut with the facets forming a great flowery pattern. The shoulders of this ring are engraved in a bold line design and taper to a plain yellow gold shank.
The zircon is a beautiful greenish-blue colour and was very popular in jewellery during the late Victorian period through the 1940s. Though they have similar names, the gemstone zircon should not be confused with cubic zirconia. Zircon is a natural gemstone and comes in several different colours though the various shades of blue have long been popular. Circa 1920s - 1930s, British in origin.
