What a classic diamond engagement ring! A bright and sparkling 0.27 carat diamond is secured in an eight claw setting. The small claws secure the diamond while keeping the focus on the wonderful gemstone. It's a late art deco era diamond, just as the style was changing from old European cut to a round brilliant. It displays the small open culet and longer lower pavillion facets of an old European cut with the larger table and lower crown of a round brilliant cut diamond. The shoulders are wide and sloped in a cathedral style and topped in platinum to match the claws before giving way to a plain gold band. Underneath the shoulders are unique little scrollwork cheniers. Circa mid 1930s - 1950, British in origin.
