Classic antique Victorian watch chain crafted in sterling silver. This is a lovely chain with a nicely graduated link from a chunky 8.6 mm tapering gracefully down to 5.2 mm. Originally designed as a gentlemen's watch chain, today these are more commonly worn by women as a single strand necklace or a double stand bracelet. The dog clip clasp can fit into the jump ring connecting the t-bar to the chain or the terminating jump ring. The clasp is strong and springy. Circa late 19th century, 1880s, British in origin.
In very good condition with some rubbing to the hallmarks in keeping with age and use.
Rubbed hallmarks on t-bar and dog clip, looks like the m for 1886. Lion passant - the British mark for sterling silver - is on each curb link.
Measures approx 39 cm / 15.25 inches in wearable length. Measures approx 8.6 mm wide at widest point and tapers down to 5.2 mm wide.
