Antique buckle design bangle bracelet dating to the late 19th century. This wide sterling silver bracelet is designed as a traditional buckle. The top half is deeply and exquisitely engraved with an ivy leaf pattern. Ivy leaves have a wonderful symbolism in the Victorian era, a plant which grows on others, it means I cling to thee, a sweet sentiment to indicate a special bond between the giver and receiver. The back side is wide, plain and unadorned. This piece is very slightly oval in shape to assist in keeping the design on the top of the wrist. It snaps firmly and has a attached safety chain.
This piece is in very good condition with some minor signs of wear as expected for a 140 year old piece!
Hallmarked for sterling silver, assayed in Birmingham 1880.
Measures approx 17 cm / 6.7 inches internal circumference. 2.6 cm / 1 inches wide.
Weighs 40.5 grams.
