Victorian aesthetic movement etched design silver book chain. What a stunning necklace! Wide folded links extend to points with every other one engraved with a leaf pattern. The ivy leaf design is a popular one throughout the Victorian era, symbolising an attachment between the giver and wearer just as ivy forms an attachment in nature. Between those links are flat links which have a very modern look to them and are each accentuated with a pair of large beads. This intricately crafted chain, made of folded silver links (hence, book chain!) would have been for a large cameo, locket or statement pendant originally. Circa late 19th century, 1880s - 1900, likely British in origin.

In very good condition. On close inspection there is some tarnish on where the links overlap. The bolt clasp is nice and springy.

Not marked, professionally tested and assessed as sterling silver throughout.

Measures approx 44.5 cm / 17.5 inches in total wearable length. 12.3 mm at widest point.
