Great vintage 9 carat gold sphere earrings. Large gold spheres are hallow with the ear wires going through them and you can spin the spheres on the wires. The oversized hooks are wonderfully styled. The wires are normally just a necessity for wearing the earrings whereas these are bold, a necessity turned into an eye catching feature. They are sprung and thread into the earlobe, positioned so that the spheres hang just slightly below the base of the lobe. The wires are the bottom of the sphere end in an acute angle which creates an end for the ear wire to be fitted into. Circa second quarter of the 20th century, approx 1930s - 1950.
In very good condition, one sphere has a small pinpoint dent which is very difficult to photo because of the shiny surface.
Not marked, professionally tested and assessed as 9 carat gold.
Measures approx 26.5 mm / 1.05 inches in length, by 12 mm / 0.50 inches in diameter.
Weigh 3 grams together, approx 1.5 grams each. The spheres are hallow and spin.
