Large Victorian silver plated monogram locket. This is quite the bold locket! To the front, in a raised design, are three intertwined letters standing for Faith Hope and Charity. This was a common sentiment in Georgian and Victorian Britain with these attributes being valued, particularly during the war eras. Faith, usually the largest as seen here, representing both a belief in god but also in strength to do what's needed. Hope, particularly in a loved one's return from war. Charity, or affection toward others. The letters are large and raised, taking up most of the locket's face. They, like the locket, are silver plated, and the edges have the brass showing through. We aren't sure if this is on purpose or through wear, but the effect is very cool, really drawing attention to the design. A large bail, a teardrop shape typical of the Victorian era, would allow a significant chain, such as a book chain, to work with this locket. Circa 1880s - 1900, British in origin.

In good condition. The interior contains a single frame, no coverings. Throughout the interior are signs of wear and testing marks. The back side has some wear through the silver plate where it touches the skin, particularly on the back centre and the centre of the bail. This piece closes tightly with an audible click. Please close from the edge, closing a large locket from the centre can risk denting as there's a large span between edges.

Measures approx 49 mm / 1.95 inches tall not including the bail, 58.7 mm / 2.3 inches tall including the bail, by 34.85 mm / 1.37 inches wide, by 13 mm / 0.5 inches deep.

Weighs 24.8 grams.
