Ruby and diamond three stone Art Deco engagement ring. A synthetic brilliantly coloured square ruby is bezel set between two rose cut diamonds. The edges of the ruby are lined with milgrain beading and the rose cut diamonds are bead set. This is a beautiful tapered design, very Art Deco. The three gemstones are set into a platinum top on a narrow 18 carat yellow gold shank. The contrast between the synthetic ruby and surround platinum and diamonds is wonderful! Circa 1920s, European in origin.

Synthetic gemstones were a scientific breakthrough during the late Victorian and Edwardian era. The Victorians did love their science! Perfect colour and matching gemstones were prized above earth-mined stones making lab-created gemstones more valuable at the time and highly sought after. They remained popular during the Art Deco era when jewellery was often designed with several matching gemstones in geometric patterns.

This ring shows some wear on the sides, and thinning on the back centre of the band.
