Antique floral engraved locket dating to the early 20th century. This locket is oval in shape and ornately engraved. Both sides feature a garland of flowers and leafs following the bottom and left side of the oval outline. A pair of swallows swoops around the flowers, playing in the foliage. Swallows symbolise a safe return home, which is why they are both seen in antique jewellery and as tattoos for sailors or travellers. Both sides of this locket are the same other than very minor variation in details you get within a hand engraved design. Circa 1910s.
In very good condition. Inside the locket are two frames and two plastic coverings. One frame is built in and cannot be removed, the other is removable. The plastic coverings are tinted red from the fabric that was in the locket in place of photos, now removed. The locket closes very well and is in very good wearable condition with minor wear in keeping with age and use.
Stamped 9ct Front and Back. The engraved section on the front and back is 9 carat gold, which is yellow in colour. The frames and internal section are a brass alloy for strength.
