Antique diamond engagement ring set in platinum. A stunning old mine cut diamond of 0.40 carats is held in eight claws. The diamond, dating to around the mid to late 19th century, is an old mine cut. The diamond, cut by hand well over a century ago, has a cushion outline with a high crown, small table, larger open culet and my favourite - a Kozibe effect! The Kozibe effect is a reflection of the open culet within the diamond and is only seen with particular cutting styles.
The engraved shoulders get wider as they approach the diamond. They're engraved in a square design and outlined in milgrain beading. The cut shoulder design catches the light and they slope down to a slender platinum band. Circa mid to late 19th century diamond and circa late 19th to early 20th century mounting.
In very good condition.
