Antique Graduated Five Stone Old Mine Cut Diamond Ring. Bezel Set Diamond Wedding Ring in Yellow Gold.
Add to WishlistA timeless and classic miner cut diamond five stone ring. Five old cut diamonds are bezel set across the top of the finger. These diamonds are old mine cut, hand cut in the mid to late 1800s. A predecessor to the modern round brilliant, these older cut diamonds have an overall round outline but with the slight unevenness in outline and facet pattern that one would expect with the technology available during that time period.
The very tips of the tops of the bezels are topped in platinum, it's always been fashionable to set diamonds in white metals. The rest of this ring is 18 carat yellow gold. The diamonds are light very pale yellow in colour. They look white under some lighting conditions and warmer in others. The shank is a half round shape with a domed top and flat inside. The diamonds are set a bit off the finger with a simple pierced arch pattern under them, allowing light in. Circa 1870s - 1900s, British in origin.
Diamonds: all old mine cuts. The centre diamond is approx 3.1 mm and calculated in setting as 0.13 carats. On either side are approx 2.8 mm diamonds, estimated in setting as 0.17 carats together. The diamonds on the end are approx 2.3 mm and are estimated as 0.10 carats together. All are approx L - M in colour and SI clarity, graded as setting permits. Total carat weight is estimated while set as 0.40.
