Antique sterling silver long guard chain with unusual decorative links. Oval shaped links alternate with every other one featuring an engraved beaded design. The plain links are in the belcher style and the engraved links are flattened the opposite way. During the Victorian era long chains were used for watches or lorgnettes. Long chains are just as usable today and can easily be worn doubled or tripled and attached to a locket or pendant. This chain closes with a small bolt clasp. Circa 1900, thought to be French in origin.
