Simple mid 20th century 9 carat yellow gold wedding ring. This vintage yellow gold wedding band has been crafted in a court fit / comfort fit profile with a low domed exterior and curved interior. It's a narrow width band which would be easy to wear alone or with another ring. The inside is fully hallmarked with British marks for 9 carat gold dating to 1940s.
This is a utility band. During World War II there was rationing, including rationing of gold. Couples had to apply for their rings and rings were not permitted to be higher than 9 carat (the previous standard used for wedding ring was often 22 carat). These rings are narrow and light weight - they couldn't weigh more than 3 grams. The war effort is a huge part of British history and I find it wonderful that these rings are still treasured today.
Hallmarked for 9 carat gold, assayed in Birmingham, date letter for 1947. Also contains a utility stamp.
Size: UK -O; US - 7 1/4; EU - 17 1/2. Sizing available for an additional fee.
Measures approx 2.6 mm wide by 1.4 mm deep.
